PokéBonk Unlock Challenges: Gastly, Sleep, Mewtwo & Looks

Plan Gastly’s 600 reactions, count sleeping enemies, recruit Mewtwo under the newer legendary rule and troubleshoot Looks progress.

Progression10 min readEnglish简体中文Español

Gastly needs 600 elemental reactions in one run; sleeping-enemy challenges count enemies, and Mewtwo needs a separate encounter after its prerequisites. These goals use different counters. Pick one before starting, then check the exact League or Wardrobe card instead of treating every unlock as a map-clear reward.

October 29 follow-up: legendary recruitment and shiny announcements were checked in the official v0.8.78 history; the current capture path confirms the recruitment exception. Other numeric challenge conditions retain their separately dated snapshots.

Choose the counter before the run

TargetRequirement checked in v0.8.62What commonly goes wrong
Gastly, then the Gengar evolution line600 elemental reactions in one runCounting status applications or adding several runs together
JigglypuffPut 1,500 Pokémon to sleep, cumulativelyAssuming all 1,500 must happen in one run
PoliwagPut 4,000 Pokémon to sleep, cumulativelyExpecting to select it before the later capture
DrowzeePut 1,500 Pokémon to sleep in one runRepeatedly sleeping the same enemies
Mewtwo60 League members, all three legendary birds captured, Rocky Desert Hard wonCompleting one prerequisite and expecting immediate recruitment

These are League requirements. A Mastery Look is a Wardrobe cosmetic with its own objective; an Alpha support capture helps the current run. Neither replaces recruiting the playable partner. The complete unlock table covers the rest of the roster.

Gastly: build a repeatable reaction loop

An elemental reaction needs a status already on the enemy, followed by a compatible hit. Merely carrying two attack types, applying poison, or using a reaction-named fusion does not automatically increment the reaction counter.

These are practical starting plans inferred from the checked hit and item paths, not timed 600-reaction clears:

Starting partner and itemSetupTrigger
Bulbasaur + Flame OrbThe item gives hits a chance to burnA later Grass hit, including Vine Whip, hits a burning enemy: Wildfire
Charmander + Toxic OrbThe item gives hits a chance to poisonA later Fire hit hits a poisoned enemy: Toxic Gas
Squirtle + Flame OrbThe item supplies burnA later Water hit hits a burning enemy: Steam

Choose a partner and an item you have actually unlocked. Flame Orb and Toxic Orb are run items, not mandatory Bag purchases. Their availability and drops still determine whether the plan comes together. If the needed item never appears, do not assume ordinary attacks are silently earning the same progress.

Prioritize enough survivability to keep meeting fresh groups, reliable hit coverage, and status chance when offered. Keep the setup and trigger in the build. Avoid fusing away the only attack that supplies one half of the loop without checking the result's actual behavior. More damage is useful for survival, but an enemy killed before the status-and-trigger sequence finishes cannot complete that sequence.

The checked reaction path has a shared 0.25-second gate per reaction type; a screen full of hits is not the same number of reactions. Aim for a sustained loop, not one huge burst. Reaching 600 completes Gastly's challenge; finish the run and capture the eligible encounter in a later run before expecting Gastly to be selectable. Gengar belongs to that recruited evolution line. See reaction mechanics for other setups.

Sleep challenges: reach new enemies

The current sleep application uses a once-per-enemy counter. Refreshing sleep on the same survivor does not turn it into several newly slept Pokémon. Sleep duration can help safety, but it does not multiply the number of enemies counted.

For an accessible opening, use Bulbasaur and take Sleep Powder when offered. It is the third curated move, eligible at player level 4; eligibility does not guarantee that exact level-up card. Add area and useful attack frequency to reach more enemies, plus survival to extend the attempt. If you already recruited Poliwag, its Hypnosis offers another sleep route; do not use an as-yet locked Poliwag as the prerequisite for unlocking itself.

Awakening is the relevant held item in this game: its checked description gives hits a 2.5% sleep chance per stack, up to three stacks, and lets some sleeping enemies remain asleep after a hit. It helps spread sleep, but is not an automatic 1,500-enemy completion. Move on to fresh groups instead of circling one sleeping target. We have not measured a fastest map or completion time.

Use cumulative Jigglypuff or Poliwag progress as an intermediate goal if a single Drowzee attempt falls short. For Drowzee, 750 in one run plus 750 in another still does not meet the single-run 1,500 condition.

Mewtwo: prerequisites, encounter and recruitment

  1. Confirm all prerequisites on Mewtwo's League card. The separately dated challenge snapshot lists 60 members, Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres and a Rocky Desert Hard victory; use the current card if a requirement differs.
  2. Start a later solo Classic run. The current UI still specifies zone 2 or 3, not co-op, Survival or Tower. Rocky Desert Hard is a prerequisite, not an instruction to wait in its sanctuary.
  3. The UI describes arrival around one to two minutes after entering the zone, once per run. Other Bosses, events and captures can delay the encounter; it is not a guaranteed stopwatch route.
  4. Win the encounter. Since v0.8.63, weakening this eligible legendary secures its League recruitment. Confirm the join message; a second Poké Ball interaction is no longer required merely to add Mewtwo to the League.
  5. If it is shiny, follow the weakened target's Poké Ball prompt, desktop default E, to obtain that shiny as well. Confirm the collection and let the result synchronize.

The older UI sentence “beat it and catch it” still appears in v0.8.78's dictionary, but the newer patch notes and the current capture behavior implement the legendary recruitment exception. A Survival milestone Mewtwo is a different encounter. See Boss guidance and save troubleshooting.

Looks: why a finished run may not count

Open League → Wardrobe and read the exact Look you are pursuing. Work through these checks:

  • Partner and form: start with the requested partner. For the no-evolution Charmander and Dratini challenges, v0.8.59 checks your form when the final boss is defeated, even if its experience evolves you afterward. Evolving earlier can invalidate the condition.
  • Map, difficulty and result: a Glacier clear is not enough if the card asks for a particular difficulty, partner, action total or victory condition. Record the full card, not just the map name.
  • Actual status: “burn Pokémon” needs burn applications. Fire damage and Fire-type knockouts do not by themselves prove a burn occurred. Flame Orb or a move that actually applies burn can supply the setup; check the move card.
  • Mode and ownership: from v0.8.60, most Looks count in co-op, with team victory satisfying “win” but your own actions checked individually. Challenges limiting hits taken remain solo only. These rules apply to runs finished after that update; the notes do not promise retroactive credit for earlier clears.
  • Finish and save: return to the League/Wardrobe after the run and let results synchronize before deciding a counter is broken.

The current card is authoritative if a later patch changes an objective. Co-op rules explain team restrictions; evolution guidance helps plan a form-sensitive run.

When progress did not save

Keep the run result, objective wording, partner/form, mode, map/difficulty, game version and whether you were signed into the same account. First check the save and connection guide; do not clear browser storage or start a new account to fix a missing counter. A replay is useful only after distinguishing an unmet condition from failed synchronization.

Sources and checks

Checked October 28, 2026, against official v0.8.62 / mvr5gbc0 challenge and item configuration and the client's status, reaction, Mewtwo and capture paths. The official English UI dictionary supplies the Mewtwo encounter wording. The same configuration carries the v0.8.59 and v0.8.60 patch notes used for form checks and co-op Looks. These were static source checks; we did not complete the challenges, verify every Look or time a capture. Sleep Powder's kit position and eligibility use the separately versioned v0.8.25 kit baseline. Community Gastly, sleep, Mewtwo and skin-progress questions informed the topics, not the mechanical claims. Source methodology.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a fusion to unlock Gastly?

No. Gastly asks for 600 elemental reactions in one run, not 600 fusions. A status followed by a compatible triggering hit can produce a reaction without a fusion.

Can I farm sleep progress on the same enemy?

The checked sleep application counts each enemy once. Reapplying sleep to the same enemy does not count as sleeping another Pokémon.

Where is the Mewtwo recruitment encounter?

After every prerequisite, use a later solo Classic run in zone 2 or 3. From v0.8.63 weakening the eligible Mewtwo encounter recruits it; a Poké Ball is still needed for its shiny. A Survival milestone Boss is a different encounter.

Do Looks challenges count in co-op?

From v0.8.60, most count in co-op, with team victory and individual action checks. Challenges limiting hits taken remain solo only; the announcement applies to runs finished after that update.
